Valkla Stone

Valkla Stone is an earthy gray sedimentary rock renowned as one of the most prominent limestone building materials in Estonia. It originates from the diverse layers of the Väo layer within the Lasnamäe deposits, situated in Väo, Lasnamäe, Tallinn, northeastern Estonia.
This limestone has been a cornerstone of Estonian architecture and construction for centuries, thanks to its strength, versatility, and aesthetic appeal. It has been extensively used for paving, masonry, gateposts, and various other structural and decorative purposes. Its significance is underscored by its historical use in building Tallinn's Old Town during the medieval period, where it helped shape the city's iconic heritage.
Even today, Lasnamäe rocks, extracted from two main quarries in Väo, continue to be a preferred choice for traditional and modern construction projects, offering a connection to Estonia’s rich architectural legacy while meeting contemporary demands.
