    The machine is made up of a solid base in metalwork fabrication upon which two traverse chrome-plated bars are mounted. Two carts for slabs handling travel along the bars: each cart features two rows of idle wheels.
    Cart motion adapts to the different sizes of the slabs thanks to a cross-head nut operated by means of a small manual wheel. The supports of the carts move along self-lubricating bushes.
    The slab is hold in position by two steel guides along each of the two rows of idle wheels.
    The two drilling units are placed alongside each cart. They are pneumatically operated by a hydraulic brake and are used to make holes on the slab edge.
    MACHINE SPECIFICATIONS:

    Penetration speed can be adjusted as follows:
    to slowly penetrate into the slab until the diamond pointisguided(about3 ÷4mm);
    to penetrate, at a higher speed, into the remaining 90% of the hole in order to complete it as fast as possible.
    Once the hole has been completed, the return speed is always high.
    Hole depth is varied by adjusting a magnetic sensor.
    Hole positions are obtained by placing two retraction mechanical locks on one of the two carts. A milling machine is placed above one of the two drilling units in order to create the pocket. The milling machine is pneumatically operated by means of a brake and its speed can be adjusted to:
    quickly reach the slab
    perform final cutting.
    Return speed is always at the maximum value.
    The stroke corresponding to the two speeds can be adjusted by using microswitches. Cutting is aligned with the hole.
    Once the slab is positioned, pocket drilling and cutting are automatic. The operator must press the corresponding button to start cutting. Either spindle can be excluded from drilling.

    Slab conveying carts
    Slab conveying carts are made up of two traverse beams along which two beams equipped with motor- operated slab conveyors move. The width of each beam can be adjusted to process slabs of different sizes.
    The width can be adjusted manually by using a small wheel. The carts move along chrome-plated bars with precision bushes.
    Each cart also features a slab guide and an end stop pneumatically operated in order to process the slab when it is not moving (holes and hole pockets).
    The back/forth motion of the slab conveyors can be selected from the electric panel.
    With forward motion, the slab enters and exits from the opposite end. With backward motion, the processed slab is brought back to its starting point in order to be discharged.
    Drilling units
    By means of a small wheel, four drilling units, two on each side of the machine, can be manually placed longitudinally on two chrome-plated bars of large diameter the whole length of the machine.
    Holes are made when the slab is not moving and held in position by means of two guides and two mechanical stops.
    The drilling units are pneumatically operated by means of a hydraulic brake.
    Feeding has two speeds:
    the first allows for slow penetration of the points into the slab until the points are guided by the hole itself
    the second allows for drilling at optimum speed. Return stroke is always at high speed
    Return stroke is always at high speed.
    One or more spindles can be excluded from processing by selecting them on the operator’s touch screen.

    Processing occurs when the slab is not moving. The two conveyors move the slab to the mechanical stops. Before reaching them, speed is reduced to allow for smooth, precise positioning.
    Then, drilling and pocket cutting are performed, or slots and kerfs are made. Once processing is over, the slab is moved backwards, the two mechanical stops retract, and the conveyors bring the slab to the discharge point.
    A new slab is placed on the conveyors, and cycle is started again.

    Handling
    Spindle handilng along the whole length of the machine and of the two carts is operated along precision guides by means of recirculating ball slide guides.
    Motion is operated by precision rolled screws with recirculating ball bushes and precision gearboxes. The four spindles and the two carts are operated by brushless motors coupled with precision gearboxes and driven by electronic drivers which are in turn CNC-operated.
    Precision in positioning
    Precision in positioning is lower than +/- 0.2 mm.
    Output
    Depending on the material used (marble, tender or hard granite) the typical hole with 6-8 mm diameter and 25-30 mm depth is completed in 20-30 seconds. The distance between two slabs is about 20 cm which entails a motion time of about 20 seconds. Therefore, 4 holes are completed in 40-50 seconds, with an output of 290-360 holes per hour. The average repositioning time is about 5 seconds.
    Lubrication
    Lubrication of moving parts is centralized and automated. An automated lubrication cycle for periods when the machine is not used is also available.
    Positioning system
    It is automated thanks to an industrial computer. The operator must set slab width, hole position with reference to the mechanical stops, make requests for holes with or without pocket, and the automatic system will provide the necessary motions for the drilling heads and the carts.
    Once the machine is positioned, the automated work cycle is started.
    The height of the drilling spindles is adjusted by using a motor-reducer operated by two buttons on the spindle columns.
    4 holes on each side of the slab can be made, along with two pockets on one side, as well as slots, prolonged slots, and kerfs.
    The computer features also the following utilities:
    Generation of drilling programs, storing of the programs by code (brand), list of and changes to the programs (on the machine) sorted by order
    Generation of drilling programs, storing of the programs by code (brand), list of and changes to the programs on PC so that they can be later stored in the machine by using a floppy disc, and sorted by order
